MEVLANA

Mevlana, after whom the program is named, is in reality called Muhammed Celaleddin. Mevlana was born in 1207 in the city of Belh, which resides in the Horasan area within the boundaries of today’s Afganistan. The name Mevlana has been used by Sultan Veled, Şems-I Tebrizi and all his lovers and has become a universal symbol that has been identified with him. He is known by the westeners as Rumi.

Having lived in the 13. Century but transcended epochs with his work, Mevlana has not seen any difference among men just like this fact is reflected in his verses “Come, whoever you might be, come”. With his limitless compassion and unrequited, endless love of humanity, he has left not only the Islamic world but all humankind in his admiration. With his worldview and consideration of humankind he has been recognized by the whole world as an ideologist. As the 800. Anniversary of his birth, UNESCO has announced 2007 as the Mevlana and Tolerance Year.

Throughout his education he has visited various education institutions in various countries and cities of the time both as a student and scientist. “Transition” has an important place in Mevlana’s life and philosophy.
